Got some spare time this weekend? Get out in the garden and get these quick, gardening tasks completed.
Cut back tall deciduous shrubs like roses, tree mallow (lavatera) and butterfly bush (buddleia) by about a third now to prevent wind-rocking.
Herbs growing outside will mostly die back during the winter, but with a bit of forward planning you can keep using your own herbs right through the coldest months. Pot up mint, sage and parsley and bring them inside this month to provide you with fresh foliage all winter.
Cover any parsley growing outside with cloches.
Cut fresh foliage from your herbs and dry them in the kitchen. Cut the foliage early on a fine day, tie the sprigs in small bunches and hang them upside-down to dry in a cool airy room – not in the bathroom or kitchen though.
