Bright ideas for spring-flowering bulbs
Autumn is the best time to plant spring-flowering bulbs ready for next year including corms, tubers, rhizomes and bulbs.
Most bulbs suit well-drained soils in full sun, but for shady areas, you could plant Anemone nemorosa, Corydalis solida, Erythronium and Galanthus.
Benefits of planting now
Most bulbs benefit from being planted now as they can then develop extensive root growth. Tulips are especially partial to being planted in November too.
Most hardy bulbs are used to dry climates and will thrive in a warm site with good drainage.
How to plant
Plant them in groups with the growing points facing upwards. Plant at least three times the depth of the bulb and keep a similar distance between bulbs too.
