As we approach autumn, now is the perfect time for a clean-up and clear out. It’s time to chop back and deadhead, as the work done now will pay off in the spring when oodles of lush, new growth appears.
Follow this handy three step programme for jobs to do in your garden now:
Cut back
Cut back late summer flowering shrubs, as this will encourage growth and keep them flowering later into the season, meaning you can enjoy them for longer!
Tidy up
The perfect job for a dry day is making sure your garden or plot is tidy. Clear clippings and leaves that have fallen and turn them into compost. They will break down and produce nutrient-rich compost, ready for boosting the garden in the New Year.
Plant for the new season
Now is a great opportunity to plant new perennials and spring bulbs, including daffodils and tulips, as the soil is still warm and moisture levels are increasing.
Now is also the time to move, or add, any evergreen shrubs or conifers too.
