It’s officially autumn now, so you might have noticed your garden is already beginning to change. Mornings have become dewier and crisper, and you might have even noticed the days beginning to get shorter too.
As summer comes to a close, now is the time to start thinking about what you should be planting for next year. Here’s a list of six different things you can plant now:
- New trees, climbers and shrubs can be planted. Try to plant them deep into the soil to improve their survival
- Overwintering vegetable crops such as bulb onions, garlic, turnips and winter lettuce can still be planted
- Daffodils, fritillaries, crocuses and grape hyacinths can be planted from mid-September
- Biennials and hardy annuals can be sown
- Mid-September is the last chance to plant indoor bulbs for Christmas flowering
- Ground cover plants like periwinkle can also be planted to help suppress weeds.
