What’s the right fresh Christmas tree for you?
Our member garden centres offer a selection of Christmas trees. But which one should you choose?
Here are some of the benefits of three of the main varieties that are usually available at our member garden centres.
Norway Spruce
The Norway Spruce is the traditional Christmas tree with excellent shape and it adds a distinctive festive scent to any home and is usually the most economical to buy. It’s best not to put it up too early so keep outside until later in the month.
Nordman Fir
Nordman Fir trees bear lush green foliage and strong branches well suited to heavier decorations. Needle drop is minimal and they are long lasting. They can be fairly broad, so you need plenty of space to show them off to maximum effect.
Noble Fir
Wonderful pine fragrance is the main benefit of this variety compared to others. It also retains its needles extremely well. It has nice dark green foliage with flat needles. A good choice if you want to put your tree up early in the month.
Better for the environment
Real Christmas trees are much better for the environment. They are grown as a field crop so as soon as one is cut, another is planted.
Although they aren’t truly carbon neutral, Christmas trees help to reduce greenhouse gases by absorbing carbon dioxide while they are growing and once the twelfth night comes, they can be made into chippings or mulch too.
