May gardening tips
Sometimes it can be a bit bewildering to know what to do in the garden each month, so here are our top eight pointers that should help you:
- It is very important to keep weeds down this month.
- Check all wood and fence panels for wear and protect with paint or preservative.
- Continue with successive sowings of lettuce, French beans, carrots, turnips etc.
- At the end of the month plant out tomatoes, marrows, cucumbers, spring cabbage, celery and cauliflower.
- If early potatoes are through protect them by earthing up the soil around the crowns.
- Check roses for pests and disease and treat straight away if necessary.
- If you have a lawn and are able to, please help pollinators by opting for No Mow™ May
- Increase watering and feed growing houseplants.
