Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Camellias and Pieris are all stunning spring flowering hardy shrubs. These all fall in a category of plants known as ‘ericaceous’, as they have a need for acidic soil.
This can easily be provided by planting them in ericaceous compost and feeding with an ericaceous fertiliser such as Miracle Gro for Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Camellias. They are also good in pots, as long as they are kept well-watered and grow very well in more shady locations.

Lawn care
This is the month for giving your lawn its first feed. Decide if you also want to kill moss and weeds, then make your choice of product to apply. Evergreen Complete 4 in 1 will feed, kill weeds, and control moss.
A great feed and mosskiller is Mossmaster. It feeds the grass and kills moss, which is then digested and turned into fertiliser by naturally occurring bacteria.
If you have a few bare patches, try Aftercut Lawn Thickener Feed and Seed to add some grass seed to fill these in. If you just have a few patches of weeds, use Resolva Lawn Weedkiller, a liquid lawn weedkiller that will kill the weeds but not the grass.
Planting hanging baskets & patio pots
It’s time to get planting your hanging baskets and patio pots. Always have a nice central focal point, perhaps a Fuchsia, Geranium or Non-Stop Begonia. Line the edge with trailing plants such as trailing Petunias, Lobelia, Trailing Geraniums and Bacopa.
Then fill in between with nice showy fillers such as Nemesia, Felicia and Verbenas. Make sure you feed weekly with Miracle Gro for a gorgeous show all summer.
