ParticipantWell, this dinosaur finds the forum clunky and difficult to use/find my way around.
Tried clicking the Catering topic and the GCA website home page came up
Tried sending the link to the IGCA Congress under the “Conference” heading but nothing happened, hence it’s now under general announcements.
Replies/posts appear very slow to be shown.
Hopefully/probably it’s just me!12th November 2021 at 1:37 pm #39550Anonymous
InactiveI’m almost as much of a dinosaur as you Paul. I’m also finding it clunky. I feel we will be missing out on the spontaneity of the current exchange. Unless you happen to come on here which I’m not convinced I will remember to do you could be missing out on a lot of info. Not loving it at the moment!

ParticipantIs there a ‘How to use Guide’?? like Justin I’m struggling to navigate! There must be an easier way than back clicking to get to the different topics? Also I keep ticking the notify me of follow up replies via email – is this the bit that doesn’t work at the moment? Or am I missing the emails?

ParticipantI’m no tech expert but I’m no dinosaur either. In fact tech dinosaurs might be in favour of the ‘old school’ look of this. Some observations:
There’s no button at the top to take you to the home of the Forum. You have to use the ‘back’ button on your browser
The ‘code’ buttons (/B / LINK /B-QUOTE etc) at the top require a knowledge (fairly simple but most people will have zero interest of learning) of what each means and how it will look when posted
To post an image you need to link to a web address. Who is going to do this? 99% of images will come from a phone and a simple upload from your mobile is required.
As it is, I cannot see adoption by the wider members. In my opinion, ‘tweaks’ (such as adding a button to go to different areas) will not change this. It is the wrong platform. The poor number of discussions so far show the confusion amongst the exec members. Some have posted, some have not but no thread conversations are very long.
If you search online there are countless platforms offering a modern service that is easy to use and looks like Facebook/Google etc and are therefore user focussed and interactive.

ParticipantI’m now posting from my mobile and it’s ok in terms of the website sizes correctly on mobile but it hasn’t been designed with mobile users in mind.

ParticipantI’ve just re-read Iain’s email and I have seen that the menu function is not available on the test site but will be a feature on the live site.

ModeratorHelen, I too need a User Guide, not sure on what my Moderator function is.
One comment I have is to change ‘Reply #39554’ to ‘Reply Helen’ instead, so we have a name when responding with our feedback.
